About Us
History
The
origins of the chorus go back to November 1978, when a congregation of Troy residents and out-of-towners sponsored by the
Troy Adult and Community Education Department began its career as the Troy All City Choir.
Historical highlights
for Troy Community Chorus include:
- 1978: First performance was Handel’s
“Messiah” - tickets at door $2.00 adults and 50 cents students
- 1989: Second place
out of 40 entries, Trappers Alley Christmas Competition
- 1990: Performed the national anthem at Tiger
Stadium (Tigers v Kansas City Royals)
- Various performances at Detroit Festival of the Trees, Troy’s Lighting of
the Tree, Meadowbrook Mall, Somerset Collection, Cobo Hall
- 2008: Chorus was recognized for 30 years
of service to the community by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Sen. John Pappageorge and State Rep. Marty Knollenberg.
Currently
Interest
in the chorus by those who love to sing has remained high. The performances, given by the 70+ member group,
have evolved so that they may also feature instrumental music, dancing, soloists and ensembles.
Members
of the chorus come from all over the metropolitan area. The chorus is proud of its diversified membership
– and its members’ musical backgrounds vary, as do their personal hobbies and interests.
